How do I run a light show on my Tesla?

  • USB Drive Preparation: Obtain a separate USB drive distinct from your TeslaCam dash-cam drive. Ensure it doesn't have a TeslaCam folder at the base level.
  • Formatting and Folder Creation: Format the drive to exFAT or FAT32 for Windows users (or MS-DOS FAT if you're using a Mac). Then, make a main folder called "LightShow".
  • File Placement: After getting a custom light show, you'll have two essential files: lightshow.fseq (sequence data) and either lightshow.wav or lightshow.mp3 (audio data). Put these files directly inside the "LightShow" folder.
  • USB Port Connection: Connect your USB drive to the front USB or the glovebox USB port of your Tesla.
  • Managing Multiple Shows: You can save various light shows on one USB. To change between them, you'd need to replace the files in the "LightShow" folder using a computer.
  • Initiating the Light Show: On your Tesla's central screen, navigate to "Toybox" and select "Start The Show." A "Custom Light Show" popup should appear. If you only see "Light Show," it means the system isn't recognizing the custom files from the USB. Wait until "Light show ready!" displays before proceeding.
  • Safety First: Before playing the show, make sure no one is inside the car due to potential high volume from the internal speakers. Also, don't max out the volume immediately; test it first.
  • Vehicle Movements: Depending on your Tesla model and the specific light show, various parts (like trunk lid, charging port, side mirrors, windows, or Model X's falcon wing doors) might move. Ensure your vehicle has enough surrounding space. If your Tesla lacks a moving part specified in the light show (e.g., a power trunk in older Model 3s), that part will stay static, but the show will proceed uninterrupted.
